The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a landmark document which declares that all human beings are entitled to rights. This year, UN’s #YouthStandingUpForHumanRights aims to encourage and amplify the voices of the youth like Greta Thunberg who is passionately advocating on environmental issues, the youth of Hong Kong fiercely protecting their democratic rights, and thousands of Filipino students who marched to protest Ferdinand Marcos’ burial in Libingan ng mga Bayani.
As we draw inspiration from 2019 Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi who believes that leadership is the most important thing that we should teach young [girls] people today, and encourage them to take up space in the society. Let us also bear in our minds and hearts the words of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal: “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan!”
Happy International Human Rights Day!
