Launch of the Study on Filipino LBT Women’s Economic Empowerment (2020)

GALANG Philippines, together with UNDP Philippines, Commission on Human Rights, and Overseas Development Institute launched the results of their research entitled, “Making It Work: Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Philippines” through a national dissemination workshop held last February 14, 2020.

The research aimed to uncover what economic empowerment means to Filipino LBTs, the barriers that LBT women face, and action steps we can take to address these challenges. As an exploratory study, it can be an entry point of various stakeholders for further research about Filipino LBTs and their economic advancement.

After presenting the results and recommendations of the study, LGBTIQ+ advocates and allies shared their insights and comments during the panel discussion, and break-out session.

Before the day ended, participants from various sectors, including civil society organizations, persons with disabilities, and national government agencies crafted their respective action plans to utilize and localize the study results.
